Description of Bosch PS20-2 Litheon 10.8-Volt Lithium-Ion Pocket Driver with 2 Batteries

Forty-percent lighter and 33-percent more productive than other ultra-compact drill/drivers, the Pocket Driver is small enough to fit into a tool belt pouch and lightweight and powerful enough to accomplish a majority of professional drill/driving tasks all day without fatigue. For carpenters, remodelers, electricians, woodworkers and more, the Pocket Driver is an invaluable complement to larger and heavier cordless drill/drivers. The 10.8-volt Pocket Driver measures only 6 by 6.5-inches, nearly half the size of stick drivers and other ultra-compact drill/drivers. Under 2 pounds (with battery), the Pocket Driver is also 40% lighter and comfortably fits into a tool belt pouch or back pocket, unlike the competition. The Pocket Driver can drive 100 3-inch screws per charge and drill holes up to 1/2-inch in diameter, more than enough to keep most professionals productive through the day. The variable speed trigger controls 0-400 rpm and over 80-inch/lbs. of torque. A 10+1 clutch system, similar to those of standard drill/drivers, offers 10 drive and one "Max" drill setting for better control. The tool's Clic-Change bit holder makes 1/4-inch hex shank bits changes quick and easy. And an LED light enhances visibility in dim working conditions, while a soft-grip handle makes the tool more comfortable for all day use. Litheon 10.8-volt tools, such as the Pocket Driver, were not possible before lithium-ion technology. In addition to larger more powerful 36-volt tools, Bosch recognized the opportunity to extend the inherent benefits of the new battery technology to innovate the lower end of the voltage spectrum with a never before seen ultra-compact, lightweight and powerful design. The Ultra-Compact Bosch PS20 LITHEON 10.8-volt Pocket Driver comes complete with two batteries, 30-minute charger, soft carrying case and two bits.
This driver would look more at home on a Fisher-Price workbench than anywhere else, but its looks are completely deceiving. It?s tiny, it?s light as a feather (less than 2 pounds including the battery!), but we promise, it packs power you won?t believe.

Bosch fuels it with "litheon," which the company calls "the industry?s most advanced lithium-ion battery technology." We can attest that there?s absolutely no lag in power even when the battery?s about to hit empty, and the run time is very impressive, driving literally hundreds of screws before needing a quick charge.

It?s rare that we come across a tool that would suit everyone, right across the board, but this is definitely one. Carpenters, remodelers, cabinet makers, builders, hobbyists, homeowners, crafters, RVers, weekend warriors and, dare we say, your mom, will come to find this little driver indispensable.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

Tools and Hardware Reviews of Bosch PS20-2 Litheon 10.8-Volt Lithium-Ion Pocket Driver with 2 Batteries

Customer Review: Great Tool replaces My 18Volt Drive
Summary: 5 Stars

I've used this recently on my house addition. I did all the electrical and finish carpentry and floor laying using it. It can be used for small drilling, but its real greatness is in screw driving.

The impact driver drives screw so much easier to use than my 18v driver. You just have to press in a little bit at the end of driving the screw to make sure the driver doesn't "bounce" out of the screw head. With a non-impact driver, you have to use both hands on it, and press really hard (at the end of the drive) to have it not cam out. It's really amazing if you've never used an impact driver.

I have weak wrists, and this tool really saves me from worrying about straining them. On drywall,I can simply put a screw on the bit, reach up 1-handed where I want to put the screw in, press moderatly and know the screw will go in and be driven all the way in. In fact, the tool is so easy, you have to make sure you don't drive it in too far.

It has a small light that can be turned on by slightly pressing the trigger (wich won't turn on the impact motor) so you can see where your driving. The light isn't so strong that you can use it for general task lighting, but its strong enough to see what you need to see in the area around where you want to put the screw into...say a couple of inches in a completly dark room.

The tool is well made, the exterior plastic parts are a rubbery feeling plastic that is a little bit heavier than most, but feels good (ie soft) on the hands (has a little give to it when you squeeze the handle). The drill head is metal, and has an easy to release snap in collet for holding bits. You can almost change the bits one handed if your carefull, but generally youre going to do it with 2 hands. You have to pull the outside of the collet out to put a bit in. It takes bits that have to be the ones where thers is a small indent at the bottom of the bit. You can use the ones without, but they can easily fall out. In fact, you'll probably want to invest in a nice bit set when you start using this tool, as you find you'll be reaching for this more and more.

The battery is somewhat difficult to remove as it takes alot of pressure to press the battery sides in and then pull out the battery - but you don't often have to change the battery, as they seem to last all day. Sliding in the battery is easy if its aligned correctly (and I always seem to be trying to put the battery in 180, then I catch it and simply rotate it, and it goes in with a snap). Similary, putting the battery into the charger can take more than 1 attempt to get it right..but again I do that so infrequently that its me forgetting how to do it that's the problem.

The direction button on the side of the driver, naturally falls on your index finger, and is easy to flip using the index finger and thumb.

The tool is small, can fit in your shop or nail apron. Its not incredibly light, but its very much lighter than my 18v full size driver, and being so small, that I'll carry it in my shop apron. I've also picked up the holster for it but haven't used it yet (other than to try it out). Being so small, I'm able to hang the tool on my work shop pegboard - so its even more usefull as I don't have to go find it, or dig it out of a drawer.

The lithium battery works differently than the traditionaly nicad battery. It doesn't really slowly run out of power, it sort of stops working when it needs to be charged. I mean, you'll be driving one screw and the next one won't go all the way in. At the end of the drive, where you need most of the torque, the motor just stops turning. If you take the driver off the screw, and press the trigger, the motor turns, but you can't go back and finish of the drive - you gotta change the battery.

It comes in various packages, some with a holster, some with a light, etc. It always seems to come with 2 batteries (that charge up in about 1 hour) and a zippereed case. The case is well made too and has some padding to it and room for the charger, driver, and my had some bits in it. You probably won't use the case, unless you travel to the work site often, because you'll use this so often, that you'll want it handy.

One more thing, the bits that come with it are very good. When you eventually need to get replacement bits (all bits where out). Make sure to get good ones, as the impact driver will shatter inferior ones.

So since I find that since the tool went through a 2 story 1500 ft addition and continues to work without fail, shows no sign of ware, and I continue to use it day to day, I give this tool my highest rating..5 stars.
