Tools and Hardware Reviews of Bosch HTC275 2-3/4-Inch 70mm TCHS Hole SawCustomer Review: excellent hole cutter but limited pilot bit Summary: 4 Stars
The Bosch TCHS cuts very quickly through wood and Hardie siding and drywall, and almost anything but concrete, tile, or steel. It is supposed to cut through tile but I have had no success with any piece of tile I have tried it on - best to stick with the carbide grit for tile. I have used the Lenox carbide hole saws and the Bosch is much better with faster cutting and much longer life.
It needs a lot less drill power than a bi-metal hole saw so it can be used with a 18 volt cordless with no problems whatsoever. Cutting depth is over 2" or more than any bi-metal hole saw. It does require using a Bosch quick change arbor and special Bosch masonry pilot bit. This can be very limiting when cutting wood as the masonry bit does not cut well and it keeps the cut piece from coming out.
The tail section of the hole cutter keeps it from fitting inside anything but the special Bosch case and then only one hole cutter per space inside the case. We only used a couple sizes and they would not fit in our regular hole saw kits but we would wrap them in bubble wrap to keep the edges sharp.
If you go the Bosch route get one of the kits that has the special case for the hole cutters and stock up on the pilot bits as you are unlikely to find them at your local building supply store. I have only been able to buy them on Amazon.
Two alternatives are the Milwaukee Big Hawg and the Blue Boar TCT hole cutters, both kinds will work with a regular hole saw arbor and regular 1/4 inch pilot bits.
