These things are wicked. The self-feeding head works very well, and very, very fast. There is no comparison to the traditional spade bit set i replaced. I have mostly only worked with soft woods, so I can't comment on how well they'd do on hardwood.
They do require a pretty Torque-y drill to function. I have a 19.2V Craftsman drill/driver and while you don't need to put any pressure on these due to the self feed, you do need to drill using low speed usually, as high speed doesn't generate enough torque to power through. Using an extension, I did a 3/4" end-bore clear through an 18" 2x3 without breaking a sweat.
The storage wrap they come in is pretty great too, well made and easy to get the bits in an out of, while still holding them securely and protecting the sharp (very sharp!) tips and cutting edges.
The only thing that's missing is at least a short extension, but those can be picked up pretty cheap, and the 6" fits perfectly in the fold of the wrap. Would very quickly buy this set again.
