Customer Review: Really Great for the Price!

I just installed expensive santos mahogany floors in my home and realized my upright Bissell would scratch the wood. I started looking for specialzed hard wood vacs and couldn't believe there were vacs in the $1000 range! This is the only specialized hard floor vac I could find in a reasonable price range (Sears actually sells it for almost $400 beware). After reading some of the neg reviews I was prepared for "tipping over", "blowing hot air", etc. I took a chance and so far I'm really happy with the results. It is a light unit so you have to be on the gentler side when pulling it around otherwise, I could see how it would tip over, and it only blows in your face if your bending at an awkward angle. I am pleased with the portability of the lightweight Bosch vacuum I purchased. It's a breeze to carry to the room needing cleaning - a big plus for me. I'm not as happy with way it reacts to being pulled along; it often takes several tries to get it where I need it to go. The power of this unit is good; it picks up dust, dirt and debris as good as most and better than some I've had. While I loved this vacuum for about six months, I'm now ready to smash it. Initially I was thrilled because it was quiet and powerful, and then one day it inexplicably started turning itself off after a minute or two of vacuuming. Trying to reach customer service was a fiasco, after over an hour on the phone I reached someone who told me it's overheating, a common problem, and that I could send it back and they'd replace a PC board or some such thing. He assured me he'd send me the info to return it via mail, and that it would take about a week to fix with travel time. Well... I waited over a week and no paperwork arrived. I called again... I get someone who referred me to an appliance repair place (which I called, they don't even handle vacuum cleaners). When I pressed him on it, telling him I was told last week that it would be repaired by Bosch at the company's expense, he told me he'd let someone know to get the return info to me asap. Then he hung up. After I waited on hold for over a half hour to talk to someone. I guess we'll see if the info arrives this week? In the meantime, I have a house with two kids, two dogs and three cats... and no vacuum. Best of luck to you if you buy this vacuum... if it needs repair, you're going to pull your hair out. I bought the Bosch Compact Plus Hard Floor vac because of the Bosch name and because it is designed not to scratch wood floors. It works fairly well. Here are my issues with it:
- if you need a round dust brush, forget it. It is difficult to understand why Bosch doesn't make them for their canister models, and you can't get one anywhere else that fits. I'm going to buy a different brand because of this.
- it's very quiet on normal speed, but you will find after a while that you need it on the highest speed. Even then it seems to miss dust, so I find myself having to go over areas multiple times.
- when you are pulling it along and try to turn, it pops up on its bottom so that you have to re-right it. A real pain.
- On-off button is sometimes difficult to press
- wish the cord was longer

I have had this vacuum for about a year.
Pros:
- Cleans my wood floors (but nothing out of the ordinary).
- Light, easy to carry.
Cons:
- The canister regularly tips onto its rump, preventing movement. (Looks like it is "sitting up" like a dog).
- Useless attachments. I really need a round brush attachment.
- The cord has never retracted the way I am used to. Any time I want to retract the cord, I have to pull it all the way out first and then let it reel itself back in. It is a real pain.
- Expensive as all get out.
Update: I would really like to find a round brush attachment for dusting, but I can't seem to find any accessories for this vacuum.
